RSPB Wildlife Discovery Day

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides are invited to celebrate the arrival of spring with a day of fun outdoor activities at Highgate Wood.

This event is now fully booked.

Girls will explore this amazing woodland habitat and learn about the ways that it is used by different plants, animals and humans. They will develop skills such as map reading, creating art, identifying trees and hunting for minibeasts, earning them the Insects and Minibeasts badge. They’ll use their senses to connect with nature and feel good about the changing season.

Our thanks to the City of London Corporation – Environment Department for working in partnership with the RSPB on this event.

"It was so good. Found 5 slugs, made art, built a nest; everything was amazing, 10/10!"

FAQ's

Who can attend this event?

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from Girlguiding London and South East England region with their leaders and young leaders. How do I book onto the event?

Click the booking link to the right and click on ‘view times and book’. Select ‘create a new group’ and put the name of your unit. You will then be able to select the number of tickets you need for girls and leaders. If you later want to add another child or leader from your unit, select ‘find your group’. You will be asked for your Group Code, which is generated by the booking system, and sent to you in your order confirmation email. If you create an account, the Group Code is also available to view in your account . Please contact us on ENGyouthpartnerships@rspb.org.uk if you can’t find your Group Code. You will have 30 minutes to check out when purchasing tickets. If you have any problems using the booking system, please e-mail: ENGyouthpartnerships@rspb.org.uk

If you are able to, please tell us how many girls booked onto this event are from low income families, and how you know this, e.g. because they receive free school meals/pupil premium or because parents have struggled to pay for previous trips or subscriptions. We are asking this so that we can report to the Kusuma Charitable Trust who are supporting this event. Please don’t share any personal information here.
11. How much you would like to claim in travel costs for girls and leaders in your unit. This can also include travel costs for parents dropping girls off, and can be an estimate. Please see FAQs for details.

Can I claim travel expenses?

Yes, you can claim travel expenses by completing this simple claim form. We have funding from the Kusuma Charitable Trust to cover travel expenses for those who need it. Joining instructions, including further information of meeting point, will be shared nearer the time. We recommend travelling by public transport.

Do we need to bring lunch?

Everyone will need to bring a nut-free packed lunch and drink in a reusable water bottle. If adults would like to purchase a hot drink on the day, please bring a flask or travel mug as you may not be based near the cafe.

How will the groups be organised on the day?

In order to coordinate activities on the day, we will need to organise the girls into groups. Depending on the size of the group you are bringing, please be aware that we may need to split your unit between different activities. If this is the case, further information will be given in the joining instructions.

Consent forms, health and safety

You will need to adhere to Girlguiding policies and procedures for an event away from the unit meeting place, including issuing and collecting information and consent forms, having a leadership team with the correct qualifications, maintaining ratios of adults and girls, carrying a first aid kit appropriate to your group, setting up a home contact, and risk assessing your attendance. If you have questions about any of this, please contact info@girlguidinglaser.org.uk

What about photos and videos?

Photos and/or videos may be captured at this event. Please make this clear to parents/carers and your leadership team, and let us know in advance on info@girlguidinglaser.org.uk if any of your attendees cannot be photographed.
