The 4th Eastbourne Guide Unit are helping others

The 4th Eastbourne Guide Unit in Girlguiding Sussex East County organised a food collection as part of a harvest festival happening at their meeting place. By asking for donations from friends and family and by teaming up with other youth groups who meet at the same venue, they were able to collect a large donation for their local food bank.

This inspired them to find out more and see what else they could do to help, so they visited their local food bank to see the work they do, and to lend a hand at their warehouse.

We were very proud of our Guides, and how much they brought on our collection night - so much so that the collection basket collapsed under the weight (we were in a fit of giggles, but it was easily repaired!).

— Cindy Cross, Leader at 4th Eastbourne Guide Unit

Well done to everyone at the The 4th Eastbourne Guide Unit!

FareShare believe that no good food should go to waste. They redistribute surplus food to charities that turn it into meals, we've been partnered with FareShare since 2020 to fight food waste, protect the environment and stop people going hungry.

During the cold winter months, FareShare urgently needs more store-cupboard essentials so their charities can create hot, nutritious meals for people facing hunger. Will you help us collect much-needed packets and tins? Organising a collection is a simple way to help others and you can earn our Food Collection badge.

We have 4 FareShare challenges for you to try, find out more here.
