Fifteen leaders from the region came together for another fantastic weekend of walking in the stunning Peak District, tackling new challenges and building confidence in the hills. From navigating vast stretches of open moorland to hopping over fast-flowing streams, the weekend was packed with adventure and learning.
Some leaders focused on sharpening their map-reading skills, carefully plotting routes and using the distinctive gritstone edges as natural landmarks to guide their way. Others stepped into new roles, leading small groups and gaining valuable experience in managing a walk. Everyone contributed to planning the routes, ensuring that each walk made the most of the dramatic landscapes and rugged beauty of the area.
The Peak District’s gritstone edges, with their weathered rock formations and distinctive contours, provided useful reference points for navigation and opened up wide views. Walking among the heather and peat bogs, we spotted hares darting across the land and even saw frogs making their way along the edges of the paths—unexpected and delightful encounters with the wildlife of the moors.
Despite a mix of sunshine and strong gusts, spirits remained high as leaders supported and learned from one another. The joy of being out in nature was matched only by the camaraderie of the group, with new friendships forming along the way. By the end of the day, we were rewarded with a delicious and nourishing meal, starting with a vibrant superfood salad—both healthy and bursting with flavour—followed by a comforting roast chicken dinner. And of course, no weekend away would be complete without sticky toffee pudding to round it all off!
This weekend was not just about walking; it was about growing in confidence, trying out new skills, and sharing in the joy of exploring the hills together. If you’ve ever thought about joining us, now’s the time—the moors are calling!
