A (windy) walking weekend

In late March, 14 leaders from the region enjoyed a fantastic weekend of walking in the Peak District, building up their experience of walking in the hills and on rough ground. Some leaders spent time developing their navigation skills, focusing on map and compass reading and using landform features to navigate on the hills.

The weather was intensely windy - many layers were required! - but it was mostly bright with great visibility for capturing photos of the beautiful Peak District landscape.

The time spent walking gave leaders a chance to chat, sharing news and ideas about what units are doing and tips and ideas for taking girls out.

The walkers stayed at Pax Tor, which is a purpose built Brownie house set high on a hillside above the river Derwent and enjoyed a well-earned, home-cooked meal of chilli and sticky toffee pudding!

“What a brilliant weekend of walking. It was so nice to go away with a group of such friendly souls, who were welcoming, shared their skills and made great walking companions. Even eating lunch in a hailstorm caused a chuckle. I’m looking forward to future weekends, and to taking what I’ve learnt back to my girls to expand our horizons as a unit, and do even more outdoorsy activities with them.”
