We're excited to have now trained 100 peer educators in Girlguiding London and South East England, a milestone we reached following last month's training weekend in Broadstone Warren in East Sussex. To become a peer educator, members aged 14-25 must successfully complete a basic training weekend as well as topic training. September's topic was Breaking Free, which gives girls the tools to challenge gender stereotypes. Peer educators can also train in the topics of Think Resilient and Safe the World.
These issues are incredibly important to girls and young women, with Girlguiding's recent Girls' Attitude Survey showing that the pressures of being a girl are felt more intensely and at a younger age. Girls as young as 7 feel they have to look and behave in a certain way. And the pressure gets worse as girls get older. Girls and young women are also increasingly concerned about sexism and safety both off- and online.
Peer education sessions help provide girls with a safe space to talk about these issues and increase their resilience. So it's amazing that we now have 100 peer educators to deliver these sessions to girls in Brownies, Guides and Rangers throughout the region.
