Join us: 2021-22 admin teams!

Hello! I’m Charlotte, one of the admins at The Hive. I joined the team as a blog admin in the summer of 2019 and I haven’t stopped since! I switched roles to the ‘social media’ position last year and I’m in charge of our monthly ‘Hidden Histories’ series. I’m now the Lead Admin of The Hive and it’s been such a brilliant experience.

I signed up to The Hive as a way of completing the notoriously tricky SiG element 4 of my Queen’s Guide Award but I loved it so much, I couldn’t leave! During the pandemic, it was a really lovely way of seeing the brilliant work our members do and the fact that this entire project was virtual from the start means that we’re all experts with Zoom...

Back when I applied to join the 2019 team, there was an opening for Lead Admin but it didn't even cross my mind to apply, as I was sure I didn't have the confidence or the skills to lead the team - look at me now!

Some of my highlights include:

• Running the ‘Badge of the Month’ and ‘Hidden Histories’ series
• Helping to run our 2020 ‘Survival’ anthology
• Being a part of the ‘Buzzing about Wildlife’ and ‘Recipe Book’ teams
• Being part of the team that won ‘highly commended’ at the UK Parliament awards 2021
• Meeting some wonderful people (especially our competitive ‘two truths and a lie’ games)
• Getting involved in ‘revamping’ our social media pages and experimenting with all the different features available

Roles available:

This year, we have volunteer admin openings in all three of our teams:

Blogging admin: Be the first to see new blogs sent in by members and help them ensure they’re ready to share online. Get blogging access to the Girlguiding LaSER website to upload blogs and tell the rest of the team when they’re ready to share. This role would suit anyone who would like to get experience using blogging platforms and working with members to get content.

Writer: We’re looking for people who want to sharpen their writing/blogging skills. As a writer, you’ll be responsible for producing 1-2 blogs a month about anything you like! Start a new series, teach us something new… the subject is really up to you! Perfect for those wanting to develop creatively and get experience with blogging from start to finish.

Social media admin: This role involves monitoring our Facebook and Instagram, answering any questions or comments sent in and coming up with content for us to post. Our digital graphic software is super easy to use (and really, really fun!) and there’s lots of freedom to run with your own ideas too.

What’s so great about becoming an admin for The Hive?

• Learn social media skills such as scheduling, page management and community engagement.
• Get creative by writing your own blogs, creating graphics for social media or coming up with unique campaigns.
• Join a fun team, meet new people from across Girlguiding London and South East England region and work towards personal achievements, including award elements such as personal skill or your Queen’s Guide Element 4. However, you do not need to be undertaking an award to join the team!
• Everything is done virtually, so you can join the team from anywhere in the region.

You don't need any previous experience - you just need to be creative, passionate and excited about putting your own stamp on an ongoing project. Depending on your role and how involved you want to be, you could put in as little as an hour or two a week, making it great for fitting around work or education, guiding and normal life! If there’s anything you’d like training in, we’ll make it happen.
