Lord Mayor's Show 2024

50 Guides, Rangers and volunteers from Surrey East county represented Girlguiding London and South East England at the Lord Mayor’s Show in London on Saturday 9 November. The parade celebrates the inauguration of the year’s Lord Mayor and is one of the best-known annual events in the capital.

The county's walking float was themed around a traditional guiding campfire. Girls were dressed in their section uniforms with coloured pom-poms and flags to represent all 4 sections: red for Rainbows, yellow for Brownies, blue for Guides, and purple for Rangers. As they walked, the girls and leaders sung and chanted favourite and well-known campfire songs.

We're delighted to have made the broadcast coverage this year, which you can view on BBC iPlayer at around 1hr 2mins. Did you know we also make sure all participants in the parade get their lunch? This year, a team from Sussex West county had the epic job of running the feeding station.

And, for the first time, we also joined the YOULondon float, represented by 18th Ilford Guides and Rangers from London Over the Border county (39mins on iPlayer).

Well done to everyone involved!

The young members and us leaders had a wonderful time!

— Nicky Naughton, leader and coordinator for Surrey East's float
