Representing Rainbows at the Princess of Wales’s Christmas concert

Last week, Rainbow Edith and Rainbow leaders Sophie Cass and Janette Goss attended the taping of Kate Middleton’s carol service, Together at Christmas, which will be broadcast on Christmas Eve. The concert was an acknowledgment the youngest members of our community and concertgoers were selected in recognition of their dedication to early childhood education in line with the Princess’s latest campaign on the topic.

Both leaders run thriving Rainbow units attracting girls from a wide range of local families in Tower Hamlets and Hackney.

"It was very exciting because we got to see the Princess. My favourite bit was having my photo taken by the soldiers."

— Edith, aged 6, 8th Haggerston Rainbows

"I was delighted to attend this event at the Abbey with one of our Rainbows. The concert was amazing, orchestrated with awe and wonder throughout, memories we will both treasure forever."

— Janette, leader, 8th Haggerston Rainbows

"I’ve been a Rainbows volunteer for almost 20 years, starting as a 13-year-old Guide helper in my village Rainbows unit and now running a couple of units in Tower Hamlets. I was so honoured when I found out I had been nominated to attend the carol service at Westminster Abbey - I’ve always loved carol services and this is the biggest and best!"

— Sophie, leader, 1st Stepney Green Rainbows

"With my formal uniform on I made my way to the Abbey, and took my seat (which ended up being ten rows behind the royal family!). The service was so beautiful with readings, gorgeous music from the Abbey choir and soloists, and the opportunity to hear stories from people all over the country working with the youngest in our society. A really special day I’ll never forget!" continued Sophie.

You can watch the special on Christmas Eve on ITV at 7:45pm.
