Welcome to the blogging memo! From now on, we'll be posting our monthly blogging memos on our website. If you don't get them on your email box and you'd like to, just let us know and we'll add you.
September 2019 blogging memo
What do we need from you?
If you have an idea for a blog post, we want to hear it.
As the new term is here we want to know what you're planning for the weeks ahead. With the new programme now in full use we want to hear from you about how you put your plans for the term in place and how your members help you decide which activities are best to take part in.
Maybe you've got a member who would like to help put a blog post together about what they're most looking forward to this term, or how they helped to put the plan together?
Did you have any girls complete any interest badges over the summer? If so, let us know at digital@girlguidinglaser.org.uk as we'd love them to tell us about it in a blog post.
We hope that before the summer you saw the first post in our new series looking at Flexible Volunteering. If you've got an example to share please do get in touch at digital@girlguidinglaser.org.uk. We really want to be able to shout about the great ways our units are run, and how there's opportunities for everyone to volunteer if they wish.
We always want to cover everything that guiding has to offer, so whatever you're doing or wherever you're going - we want to hear from you!
What have we been blogging about?
We've had some brilliant blogs posted over the summer, including...
- Some amazing reports from the brilliant LaSERIO expeditions to Uganda, Mongolia and Argentina. These posts are really great and will be useful for any girls considering applying for a LaSERIO expedition in the future.
- Before the summer we had a post from Ellie with her top ten beauty tips, including wearing lots of SPF!
- Charlotte wrote a post celebrating the 50th anniversary of man landing on the moon.
- Sophie wrote about our July woman of the month - Amelia Earhart.
- Charlotte has written about our August badge of the month - bushcraft - and our September badge of the month - costume. Ellie has also written about her summer of trying out a whole host of badges!
- Rachel from 5th Bexhill Brownies has written about their sponsored walk for Macmillan, and we've also got a really impactful post from Bec on her own personal Macmillan story.
- 5th Enfield Guides shared with us their celebrations from their 100th birthday!
- Louise from 1st Rochester West Brownies has written us a post about how guiding has continued for them over the summer holidays.
- And we've got two new 10 Tuesday posts - one on the top ten reasons to volunteer with guiding, and one on the top ten reasons to do the Queen's Guide award.
You can read these blog posts on the news page on the LaSER website, along with updates from The Hive.
If any of the posts above have inspired you to write about something you've been up to, then just get in touch with us at digital@girlguidinglaser.org.uk.
What's next?
Our blog posts cover a variety of topics ranging from what our members are getting up to in meetings, Girlguiding initiatives and opportunities, and important issues.
Blog themes and up-and-coming ideas include:
- New programme experiences - as above, please let us know if you have any thoughts on this.
- Do you have anything exciting planned for this term that you can tell us about?
- The Macmillan Challenge – what have your unit done to help us raise money to support the life-changing work of Macmillan Cancer Support? The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is coming up again soon - are you taking part this year? Why?
- It may feel early but we know some units are already starting to think about Christmas (!) Are you doing anything special this year?
We want to shout about the great work each of our units are doing, and want to feature different units showing what they've been up to. If your unit would like to be featured in an upcoming blog post let us know at digital@girlguidinglaser.org.uk.
If you've got any other ideas for a blog, or if you already have something drafted, please drop us a line.
Similarly, if you know of anyone else guiding in LaSER who you think would like to be involved in blogging then please do send them our details!
